About Fish Oils

Fish oils are amongst the oldest supplements ever made. Cod Liver Oil was a traditional remedy used in the 18th Century by fisherman and by the 1930s the health benefits were recognised by doctors and a daily spoonful of the oil became the norm for whole generations.

All fish oils contain omega-3s, types of polyunsaturated fatty acid which are essential for health. These are called ‘essential’ fatty acids because your body needs them to function but the body cannot make them. Two important omega-3 fatty acids – EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) – are primarily found in fish and shell fish.

Studies suggest that omega-3s may help protect against a wide range of diseases including cancer, asthma, depression, cardiovascular disease, ADHD, and autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis. The key benefit of the Omega-3 fats is their ability to reduce the inflammation, which is often at the root of these diseases.

OUR FISH OIL RANGE

Our range of Fish, Cod Liver and Krill Oils provide access to the essential Omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, which need to be taken with our diet as they cannot be synthesised by our bodies.  Oily fish is the main source of long chain Omega-3s and, if this is not a regular part of your diet, a supplement may be a useful option.

Krill are not typical omega-3s. They are unique because they contain Astaxanthin, which preserves their omega-3 fatty acid content and they are attached to phospholipids, which transport and integrate them into cell membranes more quickly and efficiently.
